A Utopia is a vision of an ideal community. Dystopia, on the other hand, is a future vision characterised by an intensifying of social oppressions and a deepening of the current ecological crisis. The books we will read are all stories, selected for their connection to the theme of exploring Utopia/Dystopia by women
writers. In this bookclub, we will gather to discuss not only the future worlds the author’s weave for us, but also our own visions for what lies ahead.
What are some of the common themes for these envisioned futures? What are some of the differences? What do these visions of “brave new worlds” reflect back to us about our present time, and the potential to create new paths?
the first meeting we can meet and discuss what we would like to see come out of the bookclub. At each meeting thereafter, we can discuss the story and share our own.
